About your guide: Santhan

Santhan

Have you read the first post yet?. A little bit about me then.

I am twenty eight as of this post, happily married, and live with my wife, Shruti, and two dogs, All Spice and Licorice. My parents are doctors, and as fate would have it, I went to medical school too. Five years ago, when I finished with my graduate education, I was very interested in preventive health. I found work in the area of research and development of preventive health programs for organisations.

I have, for a long time, been overweight, and have struggled to eat right and stay active. I am prone to eating to satisfy my emotions, and find exercise burdensome on most days. I found that, quite paradoxically, my medical education had not prepared me adequately for helping myself or other people stay healthy!

I came to understand that a study of the mind is necessary to facilitate good health and change destructive patterns. I attended a rather unique course in Psychology and Counselling, which helped me understand that there is one more dimension to health – apart from the body and the mind – the spirit. I began a study of yoga in the tradition of Krishnamacharya to better understand the connection between the mind, body, and spirit, and how better health may be achieved.

In all, it has been an exhilarating journey of learning and growth. I have had the good fortune to meet several wonderful teachers and friends. In this journey, I have found that modern science, psychology and alternative healing systems can integrate beautifully to help people stay healthy. I feel inspired to share my learning, and work with those who are looking for better health.

Today I teach yoga, counselling and am setting up an integrated health practice. I love writing, reading, meeting people, surfing the internet, and watching movies. I hope you enjoy reading, learning and growing with me, and the Lighter Living Blog.

Wishing you Lightness
